Baraikhali village is located on the banks of Ichamati river. Although the river has now lost its heritage - but once this river was Pramatta. A steamer used to run through here, and that steamer used to travel to Kolkata via Goaland. Now the river has narrowed. The need for this river has also been exhausted as it has become a direct paved road with Dhaka. A branch of this Ichamati river bisects the village of Baraikhali and joins the Ariyal river. One is West Baraikhali and another is East Baraikhali. Besides, there is no river flowing through the village. A number of small channels have been cut from the main river. They are for land irrigation. During the monsoons, these drains look like canals and act as such. The border of Baraikhali is Shivrampur, Khahra, Madankhali where the Ichamati river flows and separates the Srinagar upazila of Baraikhali with Sirajdikhan and Nawabganj upazilas.
Baraikhali is already a low-lying area, there used to be water here all year round, boats were used, there was plenty of water all around, maybe that's why there was no need to cut a canal then. But to facilitate the irrigation works, a canal had to be cut in Baraikhali south Hati Chowk which is known as cut canal. It is known that the canal was cut during the reign of Abu Bakar Siddique, the then renowned chairman of Baraikhali.
